Clayton Tune: The Fateful Path of an NFL Legacy by Walter Mitchell photo: @azcardinals.com via Instagram During the second night of the 2023 NFL Draft, Clayton Tune received a call from the Green Bay Packers. The Packers wanted to assure Clayton of their interest in drafting the University of Houston quarterback at some point on day three. When the Arizona Cardinals selected Clayton Tune with the #139 pick a day later, he was surprised, given that the Cardinals had not expressed any significant interest in him during the pre-draft process. The Cardinals were not one of the six teams that brought him in for 30 visits (Texans, Saints, Browns, Steelers, Bucs, Giants). Tune had also been given a private workout by the Rams. The eventual link the Cardinals had to Clayton Tune was that Israel Woolfork was one of his coaches at the Senior Bowl. At that time, Woolfork had just finished his second year of a Bill Walsh/Bill Willis coaching fellowship with the Cleveland Browns. A...
Kendrick Bourne is going to be a fan favorite in Arizona next season. I can already feel it!!!!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding podcast today that should get all us fans in a positive frame of mind for a challenging season mixed with improvement and development prior to a franchise defining QB drafted 2027
ReplyDeleteThanks for the summary and op-ed on FA guys. My opinion of the best outcome for Cardinals FA & Draft was to focus on the 21 positions not previously manned by a 7yr old draft selection. So far it appears they are building the team first. Fixing some obvious (O-Line) issues and providing veterans to the room. I wish we could've brought back CC for a one year deal, his mentorship of our two 1st round drafts selections is invaluable. Will Bourne be better than Dortch & Z Jones? We can hope that with a competent QB (Brissett) that he may get more completions (and RAC) than they did. Hoping Lopez will be complimentary piece to help Nolen & Robinson make walls. To keep this positive - I won't comment on the re-sign of SMB. I am still concerned of Rallis leading our D, really hoping the new D Asst (Austin) will make impact.
ReplyDeleteI will count it a win if the team finishes season with a 8-9 record (2-4 in Div). That would be a good start for Mike LeFleur.
For 2026 draft I see Edge, OT as biggest draft needs for '26 and future; after those two I would like another Box Safety (the Budda heir) and a WILB (hopefully Simon can grow into wearing green dot, he showed plenty of promise even with rookie mistakes).
2027 R1 pick - a QB (not named Manning, who is hopefully gone before Cardinals select just to avoid the drama)
