A Trio of Free Agents Cardinals Should Sign

By Walter Mitchell

The Cardinals have $29.3M in effective cap space.

Here's a novel idea --- let's use it to give the team a stronger chance to win.

Here are three of the NFL's remaining veteran UFAs who would make a ton of sense for the Arizona Cardinals:

1. WR Deebo Samuel --- 69.4 in 2025 with WAS --- 72 catches for 727 yards, 10.1 ave., 5 TDs

Perfect system fit at slot WR who thrived in Kyle Shanahan's offense. Could be a great slot WR mentor for Jeremiyah Love.

2026 salary: $8M plus $2M in incentives.

2. ED Von Miller --- 64.4 in 2025 with WAS --- 36 QB pressures, 9 sacks

Fantastic situational edge rusher, even at age 37. Could help elevate the entire pass rush. Would take the double team off of Josh Sweat and show the team how serious they are about winning games this year.

2026 salary: $5M with $2M in incentives.

3. CB Rasul Douglas --- 72.7 in 2025 with MIA --- 41/57 54,7%, 410 yards, 3 TDs, 2 ints, 9 PBUs, 72.6 QB-RTG

Still one of the most instinctive, fundamentally sound and productive CBs in the NFL. Cardinals need to play more man coverage and having Douglas would aid and abet that cause.

2026 salary: $4M, plus $2M in incentives.

Total salaries: $17M

Remaining Effective Cap Space: $2.3M

  1. I would like to see a Miller or Bosa signing. Not sure I would like to see Douglas or Deebo sign and take snaps from areas we seem to have a lot of depth.

I would really like to see the money used on a PJJ, Froholdt and Wilson extension.

  2. IF the Cardinals were interested in winning this season (It is my take they are the opposite view) they would have sought a better solutions for Edge, RT, WILB, and S-CB. They did not. That leads me to believe they will sit on cap-space available (by Bidwill special order).

ps. of your choices the one that would move the needle for me would be V. Miller

  3. Until I know who our starter QB is, I got zero interest in signing any FA especially on offense. Maybe a short term deal for a RT like a Conklin, Decker, Robinson. If they start Beck, no more $$ should be invested this season on what clearly is more planned failure.

  4. Running it back with JB and somehow, despite 80 draft picks - hold on, 81, Monti just phoned in another one, has anyone told him the draft ended two weeks ago? - in the last 10 minutes, one of the oldest rosters in the NFL, why NOT Von Miller and Rasul Douglas?

I guess you don't sign them if you're tanking *again*, but they're more toeing the line between "just not good enough" and "active sabotage."

FWIW I'd prob skip Deebo. McBride will dominate the slot, lots of 2-3 TE stuff, already signed the vet WR. Not that big a need, imo.

  5. Deebo would make the WR room a bit too crowded but yes to Von Miller. He would slide in beautifully on 3rd down rush packages and on "turbo" packages to replace Zaven Collins and then bring him in during the 4th quarter to close out some games like Calais did for us last year.

  6. Von Miller as a spot starter would be VERY interesting to watch. His production has dropped off a good bit in recent years but still an upgrade to the room
