Cardinals' Director of College Scouting Suspended by NFL for Gambling and Draft Related insider Info Leak Violations

Ryan Gold, in his 13th year of employment with the Arizona Cardinals, currently serving as the team's Director of College Scouting has incurred the wrath of the NFL for confidential inside info sharing regarding draft picks and for placing bets on NFL and college games.

NFL suspends Cardinals executive for violating gambling policy
The NFL has suspended Arizona Cardinals personnel executive Ryan Gold indefinitely for violating the league's gambling policy.
The league said Friday that its investigation determined that Gold provided confidential, non-public inside information regarding 2026 draft selections by the Cardinals before the picks were announced, and Gold also participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games. The league didn't say who Gold had provided with the information.
"The Gambling Policy, which is annually reviewed with all NFL personnel, strictly prohibits anyone in the NFL from participating in or facilitating any form of sports gambling, and from providing third parties non-public information," the NFL said in a statement. "Although there is no reason to believe the integrity of any NFL game was affected, the League takes any violation of the Gambling Policy with the utmost seriousness."
The Cardinals also issued a statement, saying: "The NFL's policies and expectations for all employees are clear, comprehensive, and consistently communicated. We fully support the league's decision in this matter, which involves a single employee. Our focus remains on preparing for the start of training camp next week and the 2026 season."
Commentary:
With Ryan Gold's leaking of privileged NFL Draft intel about the Cardinals' picks before or while the Cardinals were on the clock for each of their 2026 NFL picks, it's difficult to believe that he was acting alone.
Leave it to Michael Bidwill to once again respond to the NFL in a sanctimonious (e.g. "how dare him?") manner --- only this time Bidwill is not being allowed to handle the discipline for Ryan Gold all by himself, as he was allowed to do for Steve Keim following Keim's 2nd DUI arrest.
By now Cardinals' fans know how Bidwill's discipline of Keim worked out.
Makes one wonder whether Gold was being paid for his leaks? Were the leaks to Arizona pundits and/or national media contacts at ESPN or NFL Network? Were the leaks done as a favor? How did the NFL find out about the leaks?
As for Ryan Gold's gambling on NFL and college games, curious to ask --- is it just a bizarre coincidence that the Cardinals spent as much time scouting Brendan Sorsby as any player during the pre-draft process, visiting with Cincinnati on 4 different occasions --- and yet --- the Cardinals' Director of College Scouting just so happens to have a serious illegal gambling issue of his own?
The NFL's indefinite suspension of Ryan Gold is yet another example in lengthy series of PR disgraces for owner Michael Bidwill and his woefully managed franchise.
To quote Judge Danforth from Arthur Miller's iconic play "The Crucible"--- "Who weeps for these, weeps for corruption."
13yrs working for Cards- and finally tedortec to FUBAR a dead end career. Wasn’t suspended for insider info- cause maybe ist probably common practice(?) league wide and maybe just draft humor for whomever/ whatever would bother to ask. Gambling issues across all sports will become an issue before it just becomes part of the narrative. Gambling is not going anywhere but up.
ReplyDeleteThis off season already....just when you are getting ready for training camp. Florio will have a field day with this. This kind of side betting is going to be hard for NFL to monitor. It's going to affect every team. Can we get a shaman with sage do a healing ceremony ?

ReplyDelete(1) Gambling and NFL go hand in hand; the NFL realized this way back when Jimmy the Greek was on TV giving pick'em with spreads...with legalized sports books today, and them being the largest NFL advertiser; it is my opinion the NFL has a problem of being hypocritical on the subject. I expect more of these trials in coming years.
(2) Trading inside information is just bad, but it is how the "elite" run the game. You cannot tell me the NFL found out about this prior to the Cardinals organization. Sounds and smells funny to me ? (Never eat two day old fish).
(3) Every year we "The Cardinals" seem to find their way into headlines for some negative reason - when will NFL hold Bidwill accountable for his atrocities? Not until there is public outcry - with our PHX media it may be never.

ReplyDeleteTranslation: We follow and communicate the NFL rules --- but only one employee violated them (yeah, sure, trust us when we say this) --- so we accept the NFL's ruling and suspension of the violator --- but this is not something to dwell on because we are focused on the upcoming training camp. The old deflect, lie, duck and run, straight out of the Bidwill playbook.
Another reason when the franchise(LOL) has the first pick in the draft and they have a chance to get a transformational, once in a generation player, like Arch Manning, the Manning Clan gonna say "No Effing Way!-just like they did with Eli. The NFL will back up the Mannings all the way to the Commissioners office. Here's a chance for the League to fix a generationally broken franchise in a growing market-make Bidwill either sell the franchise to the Mannings or agree to get the Fuck out of the way and sell them a % of ownership and complete control over all football operations. Would be a blessing and one all Cards fans should light a candle to come true.
