Drew Petzing Deserves More Praise Than Derision image courtesy of @azcardinals.com By Walter Mitchell On X yesterday, there was this chance for Cardinals' fans to grade Jonathan Gannon, Drew Petzing and Nick Rallis thanks to @BirdmanofAZ. Bird Droppings @BirdmanofAZ Bye week report card.......coaching staff Jonathan Gannon ________ Drew Petzing ________ Nick Rallis ________ Here are the average results thus far of the fans' grades: Jonathan Gannon: D Drew Petzing: F Nick Rallis: C Why is it that Drew Petzing has drawn such abject scorn from Cardinals' fans? Going back to last year, the PHNX Cardinals media site has been waging a daily campaign to see Drew Petzing get fired, that is if he can't coach up a weekly magical connection between Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. This season, in light of Kyler Murray's inconsistencies and Marvin Harriso...

DeletePappoe who couldn't find a role with one of the worst D in football was quickly picked up by a defensive savvy HC in Tennessee. They brought back Starling Thomas but not E Jones. Head firmly up their collective ass when it comes to evaluating talent, developing talent and have zero problem kicking high draft picks to the preverbal curb.
ReplyDeleteThird on waivers with a gutted front seven — and zero claims. Twenty-nine players changed hands, Arizona took none. LaFleur's "time on task" line is just we didn't feel like it.
ReplyDeleteBut the waiver wire is the small crime: this front office cannot hold onto the players it spends real draft capital on. A second-rounder, two third-rounders, two fifth-rounders — Day 2 and Day 3 picks Monti Ossenfort personally selected — all gone or shelved in three years. Draft-and-dump, and when a body breaks down, it stays broken: BJ Ojulari tore his ACL in a Cardinals training camp and never came back, and Trey Benson, a third-round back, has now landed on IR in back-to-back seasons.
That's not bad luck — the NFL's own players told you why. Arizona graded dead last, 32nd of 32, in the 2025 NFLPA report card. A report that ranked them worst in football, the weight room got an F, the locker room an F-, and the strength staff's individualized training graded dead last in the league. An owner who won't spend, a facility so far behind the replacement doesn't open until 2028.
Ossenfort draft picks already gone or shelved:
BJ Ojulari — LB, 2023 2nd round (41st) — cut
Elijah Jones — CB, 2024 3rd round (90th) — cut
Christian Jones — OT, 2024 5th round (162nd) — cut
Owen Pappoe — LB, 2023 5th round (168th) — cut, claimed by Tennessee
Trey Benson — RB, 2024 3rd round (66th) — waived/injured, on IR again
YOU MAKE THE CALL — what's the real problem?
☐ Poor drafting
☐ Poor player evaluation
☐ Poor player development
☐ Poor injury prevention (training facilities & staff)
☐ All of the above
You furgot pour owner, pour field conditions, pour desert climate....*slap* shut up ERauch. Go fix me a turkey pot pie!

DeleteMy answer: poor player development on defense, poor training facilities and staff and taking risks drafting players with injury red flags. Great post, Sam. Thank you.
