Monti's Plan All Along Was to Trade Jacoby Brissett and What Ross Tucker Thinks of the Trade to Ravens
By Walter Mitchell
According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, a source close to Cardinals told him that the plan all along for Jacoby Brissett was to trade him before the November 10th deadline.
The word from the Arizona media last Monday was that Jacoby immediately requested a trade when he heard he was no longer going to start and after hearingh he would be listed as the team's emergency QB. This report was was a classic case of misinformation.
Monti Ossenfort had already started to shop Jacoby last Sunday night and Jacoby knew the minute he was lifted for Gardner Minshew that the trade wheels would be in full motion.
Truth is, Jacoby couldn't get out of Arizona fast enough. For six months his name was being dragged through cesspools by the rabble-rousing podcasters and their rabid acolytes. While pro athletes try to insist that they don't "listen to the noise," in Jacoby Brissett's case that was utterly impossible.
Throughout the entire process, Jacoby stood up for himself.
* He demanded a revised contract to ensure at least $10M in overall guaranteed money.
* After he reached an agreement on the contract, when he was asked by the Arizona media about the fans' wrath regarding his holdout from OTAs, he said he could care less.
* When asked after the Broncos 30-16 win in Glendale amidst their Orange Sea where he and the team got skunked in the second half the rhetorical question "are there any plays you would like to have back?"...he paused for a New York minite and defiantly said, "I can't think of any."
The real question is what was worse for Jacoby this year in Arizona, the constant pressure he faced from the ferocious pass rushes that descended upon him each week or the constant derision he was receiving from Cardinals' rabble-rousers and fans?
But through it all --- Jacoby Brissett absorbed bone crunching hits, got up and stood tall. Jacoby Brissett pushed back. And despite what his dissenters say about him, Jacoby Brissett, during his 20-game stint as the Cardinals' starter was an exemplar of toughness, production under immense pressure and uncommon resiliency. Other quarterbacks would have shied away, taken dives or faked injuries.
Enter Ross Tucker, the former NFL guard turned Emmy Award nominated sportscaster, who told the NFL world and Ravens' fans that "I did not like the Jacoby Brissett trade for the Ravens, I loved it!"
Take heed of Tucker's reasons why. They are the very reasons that we at Red Rain have been trying to convey since the rabble-rousers' and their lackeys' were waging their year-long "Tank for Marv" campaign.

Dissenters insist that Jacoby was an awful "embarrasment" this season. Truth is, Jacoby did a lot of good things that few people ever wanted to give him any iota of credit for.

Throughout your career, have you ever been rendered as a lame duck? I have. It's one of the most trying and humiliating experiences imaginable. I will tell my story in the comment section later on. If this has happened to you, please share yours.

Jacoby was like a bowling pin last season. He was at or near the top of the most hits per game by a QB. He played through his aches and pain and didn't complain. Constantly absorbing heavy hits from huge defenders moving at high speeds can't be good for a QBs internal clock. Instead of going through all their progressions, they start "seeing ghosts"—rushing throws and staring down primary targets. Jacoby knew that waiting for his receivers to hit the top of their routes and taking those hits would eventually take its toll and diminish his performance, but he did it because that's the kind of guy he is. Kyler wouldn't do it for 200+ million but JB did it on a 2 year 12.5M contract. The garbage I saw people saying about JB was disgusting.
ReplyDeleteRendered as a lame duck? Career wise, that has not happened to me very often but one thing that comes to mind was a job I had in my 20s. My boss was a Vietnam vet. We both hunted and reloaded so we talked about that kind of stuff. He told me that in Vietnam, he carried a heavy mortar and one time, on a patrol, he ran out of water and drank water that had accumulated on the ground. Long story short he got really sick from the water and also ended up with malaria and was in the hospital for a long time. I could tell that mentally he had suffered a lot and knew that malaria can cause long-term complications. One day at work, he walked up to me and for no apparent reason, started screaming at me. I didn't say anything and just remember looking at him both confused and concerned. I really did feel sorry for him and didn't hold it against him but he turned around, walked away and we never talked about it again.
